Cowboys? Conference Winning Streak Continues

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State ran its conference winning to eight games Saturday as the No. 8 Cowboys earned a 13-3 victory over Texas Tech at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With Saturday's triumph, the Cowboys' clinched their fifth-consecutive Big 12 Conference series win as they improved to 16-7 in league play and 37-13 overall.
OSU racked up 18 hits against the Red Raiders, with each of the top eight hitters in the Cowboys' lineup collecting at least two hits. Matt Hague and Tom Belza led the attack with three hits apiece, while Rebel Ridling added four RBIs.
That was plenty of support for Tyler Lyons, who improved to 9-2 on the mound with a six-inning effort. The sophomore southpaw allowed just two earned runs and struck out six as he earned his sixth win of the season in conference play.
The game went into the bottom of the third inning scoreless, but the Cowboys changed that with a four-run rally.
Back-to-back singles by Belza and Luis Flores to lead off the frame put runners at first and third, and Tyrone Hambly delivered a sacrifice bunt to drive in Belza. Donnie Webb followed that with a two-run home run, his fifth of the season, and three batters later, Dean Green capped the scoring with an RBI double to make the score 4-0.
Texas Tech (21-28, 6-17) plated an unearned run in the fourth to cut its deficit to 4-1, but the Cowboys turned in another huge offensive inning in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Neil Medchill got the scoring started for the Cowboys in the fifth with an RBI single, one of three RBIs for the left fielder in the game, and Ridling followed with a three-run home run to give OSU an 8-1 lead. The homer was Ridling's team leading 13th of the season.
Later in the inning, Hambly drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly, and Flores scored on a wild pitch to make the score 10-1.
OSU added two runs in the sixth on RBIs by Medchill and Ridling, and Medchill provided the final run in the eighth with a solo homer, his eighth of the year.
Chad Bettis (4-4) suffered the loss for the Red Raiders, allowing 12 runs on 14 hits in five innings of work.
OSU tries for its third-straight conference series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
