April 05, 2008 | Cowboy Baseball
COLUMBIA, Mo. Â Oklahoma State outhit Missouri Friday night at Taylor Stadium, but the Cowboys could not push any runs across the plate as the No. 4 Tigers earned a 3-0 win.
With the loss, the 23rd-ranked Cowboys fell to 18-9 overall and 4-6 in Big 12 Conference play. It was OSU's sixth-straight loss to
Mizzou ace Aaron Crow had another strong effort for Tigers, who improved to 22-6 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12. The junior right hander hurled a complete game and extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 42.2 innings as he improved to 7-0 on the season.
The Cowboys finished with eight hits off Crow, as Michael Dabbs and Neil Medchill each collected two apiece.
OSU sophomore Andrew Oliver was also solid, tying a career high with seven innings pitched. The southpaw allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out six but suffered the loss to fall to 2-2.
Oliver got into trouble in the first inning, opening the frame with a walk to leadoff hitter Greg Folgia. A single and another walk loaded the bases with one out, and Trevor Coleman put the Tigers on the scoreboard with an infield single that made the score 1-0.
Still trailing by a run in the sixth, OSU mounted its biggest threat. Dabbs and Jordy Mercer collected back-to-back singles to start the inning, and Dabbs advanced to third on a wild pitch. Matt Hague then sent a high chopper to third base that MU third baseman Kyle Mach gloved and fired home to cut down Dabbs at the plate.
The Cowboys still had runners on first and second with just one out, but Crow struck out Dean Green and Rebel Ridling to retire the side and keep OSU off the scoreboard. Crow finished with seven strikeouts in the contest.
Mizzou added its second run in the sixth on Jacob Priday's sixth home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall, and tallied their final run on Lee Fischer's RBI walk in the eighth.
The second game of the series will begin Saturday at 4 p.m.
