Cowboy Baseball Defeats Santa Clara, 9-5

SAN DIEGO Â Oklahoma State got back in the win column Saturday in the Aztec Invitational with a 9-5 win over Santa Clara at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Four players collected two hits apiece for the 20th-ranked Cowboys, who improved to 9-2 on the season. Santa Clara is also 9-2 following the loss.
Dylan Brown led the OSU attack with a 2-for-4, two-RBI effort that included his first home run of the season. Michael Dabbs and Donnie Webb also drove in two runs for the Cowboys, while Jordy Mercer collected three RBIs.
Tyler Blandford earned the win on the mound for the Cowboys to improve to 2-0 on the season. The sophomore right hander allowed four runs in five innings of work and finished with four strikeouts.
Junior Matt Peck earned his first-career save in relief of Blandford as the right hander worked the final four innings and allowed just one run on three hits.
OSU rallied for three runs in its first at bat. Dabbs led off with a single up the middle, and Mercer followed with a two-run home run over the left-centerfield wall. It was Mercer's second round tripper of the season.
The Cowboys added their third run of the frame on an RBI single by Webb, whose hit plated Matt Hague from second. Hague had followed Mercer's homer with a double down the left field line.
Santa Clara got on the board in the second on an RBI double by Patrick Glenn, but the Cowboys answered in the bottom of the inning when Brown crushed a solo homer to center field to make the score 4-1.
OSU erupted for another big rally in the fourth as they plated five runs. A single by Brown brought home the first run, and a two-RBI single by Dabbs made the score 7-1.
The Cowboys were not finished as Mercer followed Dabbs with an RBI groundout. Webb provided the final run of the frame with a run scoring single.
OSU concludes play in the Aztec Invitational Sunday when the Cowboys battle host San Diego State at 12 p.m. (CST).
