March 12, 2008 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER, Okla. Â Oklahoma State used seven home runs, including three by Dylan Brown, to power past Missouri State, 19-10, Tuesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Brown's three home runs tied the school's single-game record, marking the 10th time a Cowboy has had three homers in a game. The last to do it was Adam Carr against Kansas on May 22, 2005.
A sophomore outfielder, Brown finished the contest 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Second baseman Tyrone Hambly added a pair of home runs and five RBIs, while Matt Hague and Luis Flores also delivered round trippers for the Cowboys.
With the win, the 23rd-ranked Cowboys will head into Big 12 Conference play this weekend with a 10-3 record.
A pair of Cowboy pitchers also recorded milestones in the win. Junior Brett Davis earned the first win of his OSU career with 3.1 innings in relief of starter Jeff Breedlove, and junior Jared Starks picked up his first-career save by holding the Bears scoreless over the final 3.1 innings.
OSU's slugfest began in the first inning. Missouri State (8-3) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cowboys would not trail for long.
Michael Dabbs led off the OSU first with a double, the first of four consecutive hits for the Cowboys, and scored the first run of the frame on a single by Hague.
Rebel Ridling followed Hague with a two-RBI double to put the Cowboys on top 3-2. Ridling finished the game 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 19 games, a streak which dates back to last season.
The Cowboys would add four more runs in the inning, three of those on a homer by Flores.
Brown's first home run came in the second on a solo shot to left-centerfield. Three batters later, Hambly crushed his first homer, a three-run blast that gave OSU an 11-4 advantage.
Brown added his second homer in the fifth, this one a two-run blast. His third came in his next at bat on another two-run shot that cleared the wall in right field in the sixth.
OSU opens Big 12 play in Waco, Texas, Friday night at 6:30 p.m. against Baylor.
