Trent Leon Finishes Second At All-American Golf Classic

EL PASO, Texas —Oklahoma State senior Trent Leon finished second on Tuesday at the 34th annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic at the par-71, 6,842-yard El Paso Country Club.
The Dallas, Texas native finished the 54-hole event tied with Marquette's Mike Van Sickle at 6-under 207 before losing in a playoff after Van Sickle sank a seven-foot birdie on the sixth extra hole to take medalist honors.
After opening with a 73, Leon carded a 68 during his second round to move into the final round tied for fifth place.
Leon began the day at one-under par, but used a pair of eagles and four birdies to move to the top of the leaderboard with four holes to play. Bogeys on Nos. 15, 16 and 17 brought Leon back to the field before he putted for par on 18 for a 66, forcing a playoff with Van Sickle.
Van Sickle used a 63 on Tuesday to move from 11th place to the top of the leaderboard.
It was the 10th playoff as well as the longest playoff in tournament history.
Sophomore Rickie Fowler also competed in the event, carding three consecutive rounds of 72 to finish at 3-over 213 and tied for 16th place.
Each university that has a player participating in the tournament will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Over the past 33 years, the Sun Bowl Association has donated over $625,000 to collegiate golf through this scholarship program.
