Cowboy Golf Holds Lead After First Day At The Maxwell

The event's five-time defending champion, OSU finished the day five shots ahead of SMU and Tulsa, which are tied for second place at 523.
Coming off his best career finish with a runner-up showing at the Big 12 Championship, senior Ryan Posey continued his strong play for the Cowboys, holding down second place behind SMU's Colt Knost. The Dallas, Texas native posted a 66 and a career-best 64 for a 10-under 130 total. Posey will begin play tomorrow five shots out of the top spot.
Junior Pablo Martin posted a pair of 67s to stand alone in fifth place at 6-under 134, while senior Tyler Leon also found his way into the top 10 with a 68 and 67 to finish in a four-way tie for sixth at 135.
Sophomore Jonathan Moore, the event's defending champion, bounced back from a 72 with a 64 during the afternoon round to finish at 136 and tied for 10th place.
Fellow sophomore Trent Leon rounded out the starting five with rounds of 67 and 73 for an even-par 140 total and a share of 19th place.
A pair of Cowboys competed individually as redshirt freshman Trent Whitekiller finished the day tied for 12th at 137 after rounds of 68 and 69, while true freshman Chris Ward came in with rounds of 72 and 76, giving him a 148 total and a tie for 52nd place.
The Cowboys will return to the par-70, 6,453-yard layout tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. and will begin on the No. 1 tee.
