Cowboys Sweep Doubleheader Against Hartford

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State bounced back from a series-opening loss on Friday with a pair of wins over Hartford on Saturday as the Cowboys opened a doubleheader with an 18-4 triumph and then emerged 13-1 victors in the nightcap at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The 14th-ranked Cowboys collected 33 hits on the day as they improved to 16-5, while Hartford dropped to 1-8.
Junior Corey Brown led the way for the Cowboys as the right fielder finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate with three home runs and six RBIs. He also scored seven runs and extended his season-long hitting streak to 11 games.
In the opener, the Cowboys jumped on the visitors early and often as they scored 17 of their runs in the first five innings.
Led by three homers from the Brown brothers, Corey and Dylan, OSU powered its way to an easy win.
OSU did all its damage in the first inning with two outs. Matt Mangini's double to left-center field plated Corey Brown with the first run, and RBI singles by Ty Wright and Kevin David made it 3-0.
Brown provided the big blow in the second inning as he blasted a three-run home run to center field. It was Brown's eighth round tripper of the season and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
Corey's younger brother was a key part of OSU's biggest inning in the contest, which came in the fifth. Dylan's towering three-run homer to left field was the first homer of his Cowboy career and ignited a five-run rally for the Pokes.
Oliver Odle earned the win in the opener as he came on in relief of starter Matt Willis and allowed just one run over the final 6.1 innings. The senior right hander racked up six strikeouts and allowed just three hits to improve to 3-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, OSU used a pair of four-run innings — the third and the sixth — to propel them to the win.

In the sixth, it was Brown who again led off the inning with a hit, this time a single, and Tyler Mach followed with a two-run homer. Mangini followed Mach with a home run of his own, and Wright collected another RBI with a double in the four-run frame.
Tyler Blandford earned his first-career win in the nightcap as the freshman right hander struck out four and allowed just one run in 4.1 innings of work.
Saturday's second game also marked the return of OSU sophomore Jordy Mercer. Coming off knee surgery earlier this year, Mercer pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief and struck out four in his first game of 2007.
Keanon Simon led OSU in hits on the day with six, including a 5-for-7 performance in the opener, while Wright collected five hits in eight trips to the plate and also racked up five RBIs.
The two teams will close the series on Sunday with an 11 a.m. contest.
