Cowboy Track Teams Kicks Off Indoor Season in Fayetteville

Oklahoma State's men's track team kicked off the 2007 indoor season at the Arkansas Invitational on Friday.

Cowboy freshman Sean Fleming made the most of his NCAA debut in the one mile run, finishing first with a time of 4:13.94 in the event. Three other Cowboys finished in the top-10. Redshirt freshman Daniel Watts, senior Joseph Gray and junior David Jankowski finished eighth, ninth, and 10^th in the event, respectively. Watts finished with a time of 4:19.66, Gray finished with a time of 4:20.26, and Jankowski ran a time of 4:20.64.

Also in the one mile run, sophomore Matt Barnes-Smith finished 13^th with a time of 4:22.30 and senior Michael Breshears, a transfer from Missouri State, finished 20^th with a time of 4:30.13.

In the 3,000-meter run, redshirt freshman Marshall Summa finished 13^th to lead the Pokes. The Midwest City, Okla. native finished with a time of 9:00.23. Two other Cowboy freshmen, Ben Histand and Peter Wood, finished 17^th and 18^th, respectively.

Cowboy senior Terry Josserand, one of four Cowboys to qualify for the NCAA Championships last spring, finished with a time of 48.58 in the 400-meter dash.

Cowboy senior Ryan Ripley led the way for the Cowboys in the 800-meter run. The Ocala, Fla. native ran a time of 1:55.21 in the event to finish seventh. Freshman Jerhoemee Murray, a Hillsboro, Ore. native, finished 11^th with a time of 1:57.37 and redshirt freshman Peter Doroshuk finished 18^th with a time of 1:59.89.

“It was a good meet for us,” said Cowboy head track coach Dick Weis. “We had some young guys run extremely well and, overall, it was a good eye-opener meet for them.”

The meet was hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Oklahoma State will be back in Fayetteville next weekend for the Razorback Invitational. That meet begins at 12 p.m. on Friday.
