Cowboy Golf In Second Place At Fighting Illini Invitational

The top-ranked Cowboys carded a 13-over 293 during the morning round before bouncing back with a 283 during the afternoon to make up six strokes on tournament leader Stanford. The Cardinal posted rounds of 286 and 289 to hold the team lead with 18 holes to play at the par-70, 7,205 -yard layout.
Junior Pablo Martin will start tomorrow's final round tied for second with Duke's Adam Long and three shots off the pace of Purdue's Tom Oliver. The Malaga, Spain native opened with a 71 before posting an even-par 70. Martin will be looking to extend his string of consecutive season-opening victories to three after winning the Ping/Golfweek Preview each of the past two years.
Senior Tyler Leon rebounded from a 74 during his first round by firing the squad's low round of the day with a 69 to move into a three-way tie for seventh place at 3-over 143.
Sophomore Jonathan Moore followed a first-round 74 with a 73 to come in tied for 21st with three other players at 147.
Like Leon, fellow senior Ryan Posey also bounced back with a strong second round. After opening with a 77, Posey carded a 71 to move up 23 spots into a tie for 25th place.
Freshman Chris Ward began his collegiate career with a 74 before posting a 75 during Round Two to stand in a tie for 29th place at 149.
