Cowboy Baseball Shone In Classroom in 2005-06

Coach Frank Anderson's student-athletes performed at record-setting levels in the classroom during the 2005-06 school year, something Anderson stresses is an important part of his program.
“We want those guys to be students first and take care of their business in the classroom,” Anderson said. “The guys really worked hard and did what they needed to do, and it paid off with some very positive results.
“Our players have a lot of demands on them, but our coaching staff really stresses academics and the guys took that to heart and got the job done.”
During the fall 2005 semester, the Cowboys earned an overall 3.01 G.P.A., the highest in the program's history. They also had 18 players earn a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher and had 10 players named to either the President's (4.0 G.P.A.) or Dean's (3.5-3.99 G.P.A.) honor rolls.
The Cowboys surpassed their strong showing in the fall with even more accolades during the spring 2006 semester.
For the spring semester, Cowboy baseball had a record 24 student-athletes (out of 39) earn a 3.0 or higher G.P.A. The Cowboys also posted a record 3.04 overall team G.P.A., topping the fall's 3.01 mark. Four student-athletes were named to the President's Honor Roll, and four more earned a spot on the Dean's Honor Roll.
Four Cowboys were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team for 2006. Catcher Matt Clarkson, pitcher Rick Rivas and outfielder Keanon Simon were first-team all-academic selections, while pitcher Dusty Barnard earned second-team honors.
