Cowboys Run-Ruled By Oklahoma At Big 12 Baseball Championship

The Cowboys, who were 3-0 against OU during the regular season, committed a season- high four errors and allowed 14 unearned runs on Saturday in what was their worst-ever loss in Big 12 tournament play. OSU dropped to 39-17 on the season with the loss.

OSU now awaits an NCAA Regional bid. Regional sites will be announced at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with the entire NCAA Tournament field revealed on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Regional tournament play begins Friday.

Senior Brae Wright suffered the loss on the mound against the Sooners as the southpaw lasted just three innings and dropped to 8-3 on the season. He allowed a season-high 11 runs, just two of which were earned, and eight hits.

OU (40-19) scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, putting the game away with an eight-run third inning.

In the pivotal inning, the Sooners took advantage of an error by OSU shortstop Jordy Mercer with two outs that opened the floodgates for the rally. Chuckie Caufield's two-RBI triple and a two-run home run by Ryan Rohlinger were the big blows in the inning.

Down 12-0, the Cowboys finally got on the scoreboard with three runs in the fourth as Rebel Ridling blasted a three-run home run to left field.

Ridling finished the contest with a career-high five RBIs as he also brought home a pair of runs in the sixth with a double. He was 2-for-4 in the contest.
