Cowboys Shut Out Oklahoma, Clinch Bedlam Series
May 15, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
Â
Senior Brae Wright hurled his second shutout of the season, and a sellout crowd of 13,066 fans saw the Cowboys shut out OU for the first time since an 8-0 win on April 1, 1985.
Â
The win gave OSU its fifth-straight Big 12 Conference series win as the Cowboys improved to 35-14 overall and 14-9 in Big 12 Conference play.
Â
Wright upped his record to 7-2 as the southpaw allowed just six hits and struck out five while walking just one.
Â
Shelby Ford and Corey Brown led the Cowboys offensively. Ford was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, while Brown was 3-for-4 and scored twice.
Â
OSU took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning after Ty Wright doubled with one out and scored on a single to center field by Ford.
Â
The Cowboys added to that lead with a three-run rally in their next at bat. The scoring started when OU's Steven Guerra walked Deik Scram with the bases loaded. Ty Wright followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 3-0, and Ford then provided his second RBI of the night with a single up the middle.
Â
Ford continued his hot hitting in the sixth as he blasted a solo home run to right-center field to give OSU a 5 -0 advantage. The homer was Ford's 11th of the season.
Â
OSU's final two runs came in the seventh. Brown led off the inning with a double, and Keanon Simon followed with a double that scored Brown. After Simon advanced to third on a wild pitch, Tyler Mach brought him home with a sacrifice fly.
Â
The loss dropped OU to 37-15 overall and 15-8 in conference play. Guerra suffered just his second loss of the season, falling to 9-2 after giving up four runs in only 2.2 innings of work.
Â
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
