Cowboys Use Long Ball To Snap Losing Streak

Oklahoma State smashed six home runs Tuesday against Dallas Baptist and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 17-4 win over the Patriots at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Four different Cowboys homered Tuesday, with Tyler Mach and Adam Carr each collecting a pair of round trippers, as OSU improved to 19-11 on the season.
The Cowboys got on the scoreboard in their opening at bat. Corey Brown was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Deik Scram followed with his third home run of the season to make the score 2-0.
DBU (23-13) answered with a run in the top of the second inning when Drew Holder homered to left field to cut the Patriots' deficit in half. Holder also hit a home run in the ninth.
The Cowboys erupted for 15 runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to put the game away as they popped five homers during that span.
The home run derby got underway up in the bottom of the third as Mach blasted his team-leading eighth round tripper of the season. The Cowboy third baseman's blast scored Scram, who tripled to lead off the frame, and gave OSU a 4-1 advantage.
OSU would rally for seven runs in the fourth, with Corey Brown adding to the home run total with a two-run shot.
In the fifth, Mach's three-run shot and a two-run bomb by Carr were part of a six-run inning for the Cowboys.
The beneficiary of the Cowboys' hot hitting was starting pitcher Rick Rivas. The senior right hander, making just his second start of the season and third appearance on the hill, allowed just four hits in 5.1 innings for his first win of 2006.
Seven Cowboys finished the contest with at least two hits and five different players collected RBIs. Mach was 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBIs, while Carr was also 3-for-5 and drove in four runs. Scram was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
