April 12, 2006 | Cowboy Baseball
WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State was swept for the second time in Big 12 Conference play this season as the Cowboys suffered an 11-2 loss against No. 22 Baylor in Sunday's series finale at Baylor Ballpark.
With the loss, OSU remained winless in conference road games and fell to 3-6 in league play and 18-11 overall. Sunday's setback was also the Cowboys' fourth-straight loss, marking their longest losing streak of the season.
Baylor (22-11, 7-5) took control of the game in the bottom of the second with a six-run rally against a pair of OSU pitchers.
The Bears loaded the bases with one out against OSU starter Charles Benoit (3-3) after two singles and a hit batsman and then scored their first run on a walk to Paul Miles. They took a 2-0 lead on Beamer Weems' RBI sacrifice fly, and Benoit then hit Zach Dillon with a pitch to bring home another run.
The runs kept coming against reliever Dusty Barnard, who walked the first batter he faced to plate BU's fourth run. Tim Jackson then delivered a two-RBI single to make the score 6-0 before the Cowboys finally got out of the inning.
OSU got on the scoreboard in the fourth as Corey Brown followed a Ty Wright single with an RBI triple off the wall in left-center field. Shelby Ford brought home Brown with a sacrifice fly to trim the Cowboys' deficit to 6-2.
Baylor pushed its lead back to six in the sixth. Weems led off the inning with a single, and Seth Fortenberry followed with an inside-the-park home run off the wall in center field.
The Bears tacked on three more runs in their final two at bats. BU collected 15 hits in the contest, with
Brown and Deik Scram each went 2-for-4 for the Cowboys, who managed just seven hits in the game.
The Cowboys return to action Tuesday when they host Dallas Baptist at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
