Former Cowboy Golfer Don Sechrest Passes Away
January 27, 2006 | Cowboy Golf
Oklahoma State's golf program lost a member of its family last Thursday when former Cowboy Don Sechrest passed away unexpectedly while working in Mexico on a golf course project.
Sechrest played under Labron Harris at OSU (Oklahoma A&M at the time) during the 1955 and Â56 seasons, helping the squad capture the Missouri Valley Conference title in 1955. He went on to serve as an assistant coach under Harris before beginning a career in golf course design that spanned more than 40 years.
Among the projects he completed during his career were the design of Stillwater Country Club and the reconstruction of Ponca City Country Club.
A memorial service will be held for Sechrest on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph, Missouri. The service will be conducted at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
