STILLWATER, Okla. — Rick Rivas pitched eight solid innings to lead Oklahoma State to a 3-2 win over No. 1 Texas in the three-game series finale Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Oklahoma State salvaged the final game of the series to improve to 29-16 overall and 9-9 in Big 12 action, while Texas fell to 35-7 and 11-6 in conference tilts.
Rivas (3-3) had his second consecutive quality appearance in Big 12 play, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and five walks on the day. Scott Richmond closed out the game in the ninth for his fifth save of the year.
Corey Brown staked Oklahoma State to a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo homer to center field off of Texas starter Adrian Alaniz. Brown finished the day 3-for-4 to lead OSU while Rusty Ryal helped the cause with two hits of his own.
Texas tied the game in the third on a sacrifice bunt by Chance Wheeless that scored Nick Peoples from third.
The Cowboys took the lead back for good in the third on RBI singles by Ty Wright and Rusty Ryal.
UT catcher Taylor Teagarden hit a solo homer to left-center in the eighth to close out the scoring in the game.
Both teams had several more opportunities to score with Texas leading 11 men on base, while Oklahoma State left 10.
Adrian Alaniz (3-1), who no-hit Oklahoma last weekend in Austin, was touched for a career-high nine hits given up on the day and allowed three runs while striking out eight in the game. Seth Johnston led Texas with two hits on the day/
The Cowboys will have the week off before taking on Texas A&M next weekend in College Station. The three-game set is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29.
