Whats On Tap
Oklahoma State continues its 13-game homestand this weekend as Wisconsin-Milwaukee comes to Stillwater for a three-game set. The Cowboys and Panthers will open the series on Friday at 7 p.m., and will continue on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. The series will be the Pokes final non-conference weekend set of the regular season as Big 12 play begins next week when Kansas State comes to town.
About Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Wisconsin-Milwaukee is 2-4 on the year after dropping two of three to Arkansas State last weekend in Jonesboro, Ark. The Panthers have five starters returning from last seasons 33-20 team that finished in fifth place in the Horizon League. UWM is coached by former major leaguer Jerry Augustine who pitched 10 years for the Milwaukee Brewers and posted a 55-59 career mark.
Senior catcher Brooks Graff is the top hitter among the everyday starters, batting .321 with a homer and two RBIs. The Panthers are batting .241 as a team with 24 runs scored in six games.
UWM will start junior righthander Aaron Sorenson (1-1, 5.25 ERA) on the mound on Friday, sophomore lefthander Robert Michalkiewicz (0-1, 2.45 ERA) on Saturday and junior righty Korey Keller (0-1, 4.22 ERA) on Sunday. The Panthers have a 4.17 team ERA and have struck out 39 batters in 54 innings.
Hot-Hitting Hernandez
Junior college transfer got off to a slow start with the bat through the first month of the season, but he has heated up at the plate since the start of March.
Hernandez was hitting .208 at the end of February, but has gone 10-for-23 (.435) with three doubles, a homer and seven RBIs through the first six games of March. He enters the weekend with a team high eight-game hitting streak and is coming off a 3-for-4 performance against Arkansas on Tuesday.
The Brooklyn, N.Y., product has also showcased a strong throwing arm in rightfield with three assists this month as well.
Arkansas Outlasts Pokes
No. 10 Arkansas jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and hung on for an 11-7 win over Oklahoma State in baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Arkansas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run RBI double by Jake Dugger off of starter .
The Hogs scored two more runs in the third on a RBI double by Danny Hamblin and a RBI single by Clay Goodwin and then broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Scott Bridges had a run scoring single and Casey Rowlett added a two-run single to knock Wright out of the ballgame.
Wright (3-1) was charged with his first loss of the season after giving up seven runs, six earned on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
The Pokes scored a run in the fourth on a RBI single by and added three more in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-4. Rowlett, who finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, had a run scoring single in the sixth to push the lead to 8-4.
OSU cut into the lead in the eighth on a RBI single by to cut the advantage to 8-5, but Clay Goodwin put the game away with a three-run homer in the top of the ninth.
The Pokes added two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a double by Ty Wright to close out the game scoring.
Ty Wright led the Pokes with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with four RBIs, while extended his hit streak to eight games with a three-hit outing.
Pokes Corral Bulldogs With Sweep
Oklahoma State used solid starting pitching and a great offensive weekend by to sweep Louisiana Tech over the weekend in Ruston.
pitched his first complete game of the year in the Cowboys 6-2 win on Friday. If not for a fielding error, he would have also had his first shutout of the year. The Fenton, Mo., product allowed two unearned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Carr was 8-for-13 in the three game series with three homers and eight RBIs. He had one homer that was ruled foul that would have given him three round-trippers in Saturdays 9-3 victory. Junior (1-1) turned in a solid start, allowing one run on three hits in 6.1 innings of work before giving way to .
The Pokes completed the sweep with a 5-4 win on Sunday. Junior , making his second start of the week, moved to 3-1 on the year after allowing four runs, two earned, on nine hits in 7.1 innings. He also struck out six and walked one to move his season totals to 33 strikeouts and five walks in 27.0 innings. Freshman had three hits on the day, while , and chipped in with two hits.

The Cowboys lead the Big 12 in homers with 26 ... leads the Big 12 in opponents batting average (.096) ... Oklahoma State had its string of scoring first snapped at 14 games on Saturday ... OSU has outscored its opponents 21-2 in the first inning ... The Pokes are 9-0 when leading after eight innings ... The Pokes are 8-0 when out-hitting their opponents ... The OSU pitching staff allowed just three earned runs in the three-game sweep over Louisiana Tech with 22 strikeouts and six walks in 27 innings.
Carr Revs Up At The Plate
had a hot week offensively and helped lead the Pokes to a 4-1 record with his performance at the plate. The junior from Felton, Calif., went 10-for-21 (.476) with three homers, two doubles, 11 RBI and five runs scored and ignited the Cowboy offense on several occasions. After his 1-for-5 day against Arkansas on Tuesday, Carr is now batting .397 with seven homers and 29 RBIs. He leads the team with nine multi-hit and seven multi-RBI games and also carries a four-game hitting streak into this weekends games against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Consistent Cowley
Junior hurler looks to be ready for conference play after his fourth straight quality start against Louisiana Tech last Friday. He pitched his first complete game of the season and improved to 3-1 on the season, tying him for the team lead in wins with his other weekend starters and . His 2.01 ERA is best among the starters on the team and he has struck out 24 to just six walks in 31.1 innings to date. Cowley has also proven to be a consistent performer on the mound with just one of his five starts that lasted less than five innings (Rice).
Reliable Richmond
Senior righthander has developed into one of the more reliable and durable performers in his final collegiate campaign.
Richmond, who currently serves as a long relief specialist, opened the 2004 season as the Cowboys No. 1 starter and closed it as their relief ace. He made relief appearances in both Saturday and Sundays contests against Louisiana Tech and did not allow an earned run in 4.1 innings of work. He picked up his second save of the year in Sundays 5-4 win and was just an out a way from getting one on Saturday.
This season he has been virtually unhittable, allowing just eight hits in 25.2 innings (.096), while striking out 29. Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 25, he pitched 8.2 innings of relief, which surprisingly, isnt his longest career relief outing. Richmond pitched 10 innings in relief last year in the Cowboys 10-8 win over Kansas in 14 innings.
On Deck
The Cowboys continue their 13-game homestand with a midweek tilt against Western Illinois next Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Pokes will then open conference play next weekend at home against Kansas State. The Leathernecks are 4-10 on the year and will face Arizona State twice and LSU once this weekend in Baton Rouge before heading to Stillwater. The Wildcats are 7-5 on the season and host Eastern Michigan this weekend and North Dakota State for two games next week before opening the conference slate against Oklahoma State.
Broadcast Info
Every Oklahoma State game will be broadcast this season on the KSPI network of stations. Rex Holt, will once again call all of the action for the Cowboys. Former Cowboy coaching great Gary Ward will join Rex in the booth from time to time this season. The 2004 Cowboy Baseball Hall of Fame inductee is spearheading the schools effort in raising money for the renovation of Reynolds Stadium.
The games can be heard on the KSPI family of stations with Fridays game set for 105.5 KGFY, while both Saturday and Sunday games are scheduled for 780 AM, as long as the Cowboy basketball team is alive in the Big 12 tournament. If the Pokes were to lose over the weekend then the games will be switched back to KSPI 93.7 FM.
Coach Anderson Radio Show
Fans can listen to coach on his weekly radio show every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on 93.7 KSPI FM. The show started on Feb. 14 and is co-hosted by Rex Holt at the new Rib Crib restaurant on Perkins Road.
Coach Andersons weekly television show will begin in March on a date to be determined. The show, co-hosted by Tom Dirato, features highlights, analysis and feature stories with the Cowboy baseball team.
