Cowboys Complete Sweep With 24-9 Win Over Lehigh
February 14, 2005 | Cowboy Wrestling
Morgan's tie-breaker victory was part of five straight victories that saw Oklahoma State blow open a 10-9 dual.
“It was a gutty performance by Nathan,” head coach John Smith said. “It was good to see Nate stay focus after losing this morning, and having some calls go against him. I think he learned something about staying focused. I was extremely proud of his effort.
“Overall, it was a good effort for us today.”
The Cowboys improved to a perfect 20-0 with the victory, while Lehigh fell to 20-4 on the season.
The dual started at 157, and saw OSU lose to two higher ranked wrestlers. Kevin Ward lost a 6-4 decision to No. 10 Derek Zinck, while top-ranked Troy Letters followed suit for the Mountain Hawks with a 5-2 decision over third-ranked Johny Hendricks.
The Cowboys tied the dual with decisions from Chris Pendleton and Clay Kehrer. Pendleton defeated sixth-ranked Travis Frick, while Kehrer defeated Jon Bruno.
Jake Rosholt had a chance to avenge his only loss of the season against third-ranked Jon Trenge. Rosholt got on the board first with an escape in the second period. The third period was a scramble to see who could put points on the board. Trenge tied the match with an escape, and then took the lead with the only takedown of the match. Rosholt got in on some good shots, but he could not finish them as he fell to Trenge for the second time this season.
Steve Mocco gave the Pokes the lead for the first time in the dual with a tech. fall without exposure and OSU went up 10-9.
The dual went to the top of the lineups where OSU has been weaker all season, but they were able to get the job done this time. It started at 125 where Derek Stevens decisioned John Stout.
Morgan followed with an upset at 133, and Ronnie Delk sealed the win for Oklahoma State with a 14-12 decision over Jeff Santo. Zack Esposito closed out the dual with a tech. fall over Dave Nakasone.
The Cowboys will close out the dual season at home against Oklahoma on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. inside Gallagher-Iba Arena. It will be the final home match for Cowboy seniors Chris Pendleton and Ronnie Delk.
