Cowboy Baseball Falls To Rice 8-4

The Owls improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Cowboys dropped to 3-1.
The Owls took advantage of consecutive walks off of starter Thomas Cowley (1-1) to lead off the fourth. Rightfielder Lance Pendleton then doubled to left to give Rice the 3-2 lead. A wild pitch by reliever Rick Rivas would plate another run and leftfielder Jordan Dodson singled home another to make it 5-2. Catcher Danny Lehmann blasted a two-run homer and shortstop Brian Friday would add a RBI single to close out the six-run frame.
The Cowboys scored a run in the fifth on a RBI single by Ty Wright and added another by Mike Hernandez' solo homer in the sixth to close out the game scoring.
Cowley allowed five runs, four earned, in 3.1 innings in the loss while Owl starter Joe Savery (1-0) picked up his first win of the year with nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work.
First baseman Adam Carr and catcher Jeff Parrish led the Pokes with two hits each, while Lehmann led the Owls with two hits and three RBIs.
An RBI double by Parrish in the second and a RBI single by Carr in the third staked
The Owls tied it in the third on a RBI double by Lehmann and a sacrifice fly by designated hitter Travis Reagan.
