Top Ranked Cowboys Defeat Third-ranked Iowa State

Iowa State suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 14-1, as the Cowboys improved to 13-0 on the season.
The dual started at 133 where the Cowboys' Nathan Morgan was favored over Iowa State's Jesse Sundell. Morgan got off to a quick start with three takedowns in the first period. Morgan made it hold up to put the Cowboys on the board first.
After top ranked Nate Gallick tied the dual, Zack Esposito controlled Jason Knipp from the beginning of the match. Esposito tilted Knipp for back points in the third period, and continued to work Knipp down to the mat until he received a technical fall.
Iows State recorded a decision and a major decision to take a 10-8 lead. Travis Paulson was awarded a questionable takedown off the edge of the mat to receive the major decision.
The Cowboys and Cyclones traded the next three matches to tie the dual at 14 heading into the heavyweight match. Chris Pendleton recorded a decision over Nick Passolano. Kurt Backes recorded a major decision over OSU's Clay Kehrer, while the Cowboys got a decision from Jake Rosholt.
Steve Mocco put the Cowboys on top with a major decision over Scott Coleman. OSU led Iowa State 18-14 going into the final match at 125.
Coleman Scott earned the biggest victory of his young career with a 6-0 upset over No. 9 Grant Nakamura to seal the win for the Cowboys.
OSU will return to the mat tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
