"We are thrilled to welcome Robbie Wine, as our 13th head baseball coach, and his family to Penn State," Curley said. "Robbie has a tremendous background as an elite baseball player and coach. He brings great energy, enthusiasm and passion to our program, and we are confident the future is very bright under his leadership. During his seven years as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, Robbie has demonstrated a dedication to athletics, as well as academics, that we feel is a great fit for Penn State. We look forward to working with Robbie, his staff and his players on reaching the lofty goals that we have for our baseball program."
"We are excited for Robbie and at the same time we hate to lose him," said Oklahoma State head coach Frank Anderson. "This job will allow him to run his own program and I think he will be a great fit for Penn State. His track record with player development and the offensive ballclubs that he has produced at Oklahoma State speak for themselves. We wish him good luck and think that he will do a great job for the Nittany Lions."
Wine will begin an immediate search to fill the one remaining assistant coaching position he has. Assistant coach Jon Ramsey has remained on staff and will assist in coaching the hitters and defense.
"This is a great opportunity for me and my family," said Wine. " I am excited about the chance to run my own program and can't wait to get to work. We will certainly miss Stillwater and all of our friends and relationships we have developed during our time here, but we will definitely stay in touch."
Wine is the son of former Philadelphia Phillies player, Bobby Wine. Born July 13, 1962, in Philadelphia, Robbie Wine graduated in 1980 from Methacton High School in Fairview Village, Pa. He and his wife, Shealynn, have two children, son Cory (17) and a daughter Mackenzie (13).
