Oklahoma State Rallies Past Texas A&M 6-5
May 27, 2004 | Cowboy Baseball
Josh Field's RBI double to right-center rallied the Cowboys from a 5-4 deficit. Rod Allen opened the eighth with a grounder to short that Cliff Pennington threw into the A&M dugout for a two-base error. Allen then advanced to third on a balk, before Gutierrez's line drive single past the drawn-in Aggie infield.
Southpaw Thomas Cowley then closed out the game with a perfect ninth to move to 6-3 on the year. He pitched his second complete game against Texas A&M this season and his third of the year. Cowley allowed five runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and just one walk in the contest.
“I was just trying to throw strikes,” said Cowley. “It is hard to hit it out of this park. I knew that the defense was behind me and I was confident in them.”
“It was a good game,” stated OSU head coach Frank Anderson. “Thomas set the tone early in the game. It was not a clean game, but we usually do not play a clean game. We battled until the end though.”
Texas A&M jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a John Infante RBI triple and a RBI single by Travis Bartek.
OSU used a four-run third to take a 4-2 lead. The big hit in the inning was a bases loaded double by Jason Jaramillo that cleared the bases. Rod Allen then plated Jaramillo with a double to left.
A&M tied the game in the fifth with RBI singles by Austin Boggs and Coby Mavroulis. The Aggies then took a 5-4 lead in the seventh on another RBI single by Boggs.
Rod Allen went 3-for-4 to lead the Cowboy offensive attack, while Josh Fields added two hits of his own.
The Cowboys will play the winner of the Texas/Nebraska game tomorrow night at
