Dustin Timm and Justin Pekarek (6-1) scattered 11 hits and only allowed the one run as the Cowboys stranded 11 baserunners.
Daniel Rew (5-6) matched
Rod Allen, Rusty Ryal and Ty Wright all collected two hits for the Cowboys. Jesse Boyer had a three hit day for the Cornhuskers.
Jake Mullinax staked
The Cowboys did not get on the board until the fifth inning. Keanon Simon led off the inning with a single through the left side. Chris Gutierrez sacrificed Simon to second and Ryal and Wright followed with back-to-back singles to score Simon and even the score at one.
The Cornhuskers took advantage of a Matulich error at first base to lead off the sixth inning, which led to five unearned runs. John Grose hit a sacrifice fly and Bruce came up after Jeff Boyer was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bruce promptly cleared the bases with a homerun to give
NU added three insurance runs in the eighth. Joe Simokaitis had the big hit with a two-run double into the right centerfield gap and Curtis Ledbetter added an RBI double.
