Cowboys Flatten Fresno State, 34-6
December 23, 2004 | Cowboy Wrestling
Porter's match was just one of five matches in which Oklahoma State scored bonus points on as the Cowboys improved to 6-0 with a 34-6 victory Fresno State in the North Gym in Fresno, Calif.
Daniel Frishkorn saw his first action in a dual as a 141-pounder. Frishkorn scored nine points in the first two periods without the benefit of a takedown against Garrett Spooner. Frishkorn reversed Spooner onto his back for a three-point near fall. Frishkorn got another reversal in the second period before getting his first takedown in the third period. Frishkorn held on for a 12-7 decision to give the Pokes an early 9-3 lead following Porter's fall.
Zack Esposito recorded his second technical fall on the day. Jim Medeiros picked up a win over Eric Dabbs for Fresno State at 157, but it would be its last win of the evening.
Johny Hendricks earned a major decision over Shane Seibert, 13-4.
Chris Pendleton, a native of nearby Lemoore, Calif., toyed with Chris Gifford scoring seven takedowns in the first period. Pendleton added three more takedowns in the second period to extend his lead to 21-8. Needing a back count to score a technical fall with exposure, Pendleton rolled Gifford over and locked him up to get the fall instead.
Jake Rosholt and Steve Mocco each faced ranked competitors. Rosholt scored three first period takedowns against No. 6 Marco Botelho, and was able to hold on and win, 9-5. Mocco got off to a slow start, but got three takedowns late and pulled away from No. 12 Clint Walbeck for a 14-5 major decision.
Head coach John Smith said he feels his team still needs to get better as the team gets ready for the second half of the season.
The Cowboys will be back in action on Jan. 6, at home against Michigan State at 7 p.m.
