Cowboys Drop Iowa, 30-10

Second-ranked Zack Esposito got the Cowboys on the board first with a 4-1 decision over eighth-ranked Ty Eustice. Esposito had a 2-1 lead late in the third period, and increased it to 4-1 with a takedow with seconds remaining.
Iowa tied the score at 3-3 after Joe Johnston scored a pair of takedowns en route to a 5-3 victory over Johny Hendricks. The Cowboys then took a 9-3 lead after Tyrone Lewis went from a single leg to the snake to pin Mark Mueller in 1:17.
In the only top five matchup, OSU's top-ranked Chris Pendleton remained undefeated with a victory over fourth-ranked Tyler Nixt. Pendleton struck first with a takedown in the first period, but Nixt cut the lead to one with an escape.
Nixt took a 4-3 lead after a takedown late in the second period. Pendleton then tied the score with an escape to begin the third. The Lemoore, Calif., native then scored a pair of takedowns in the third period to secure the 8-5 victory, and to give the Cowboys a 12-3 lead.
The Cowboys' top-ranked Jake Rosholt snapped his losing skid with an 11-4 decision over Parul Bradley. Rosholt's victory extended the Cowboys lead to 15-3 heading into the intermission.
After the intermission, No. 20 Rusty Blackmon came out and silenced the crowd after pinning the Hawkeyes' seventh-ranked Ryan Fulsaas in 1:24, to extend the Cowboy lead to 21-3. Ninth-ranked Will Gruenwald added a decision at heavyweight to give the Cowboys a 24-3 lead.
Iowa got its second win of the match at 125 pounds when second-ranked Luke Eustice racked up a trio of takedowns en route to a 10-4 win over Cody Stites.
Johnny Thompson notched the Cowboys' third fall of the day by hooking up the snake on Trent Goodale. Thompson recorded a takedown and a three-point nearfall to end the first period with a 5-0 advantage.
The Oklahoma City, Okla., native then hooked up the snake at the 1:36 mark in the second period to give the Cowboys a 30-6 lead.
Iowa's fifth-ranked Cliff Moore ended the dual with an 18-7 major decision over Ronnie Delk.
The Cowboys return to action Saturday, Jan. 17 for the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals held in Cleveland, Ohio.
