Oklahoma State Baseball Signs Midwest City Pitcher Brent Weaver
August 12, 2003 | Cowboy Baseball
Weaver, the Daily Oklahoman Big All-City Player of the Year, went 8-4 on the mound with an 1.84 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 80.1 innings pitched last season. He also fared well at the plate batting .402 with eight homers as a senior. He was a first-team All-State selection for the Bombers who advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 1998.
The righthander was selected in the 38th round of June's amateur baseball draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. He was an honorable mention All-State performer as a junior when he went 7-1 on the mound with a 1.43 ERA while also seeing time at first base.
He is one of the first signees by Frank Anderson and his staff, who were excited about adding Weaver.
ÂBrent is an outstanding pitcher who we believe will be able to come in and challenge for time on the mound as a freshman, said the first-year head coach. ÂWith the loss of several pitchers from last year's team, pitching became a priority in recruiting and we feel that Brent can come in and help us for the next several years.Â
