Oklahoma State Defeats Southern

The Cowboys took both games of the series to improve to 36-17 on the year with the win while the Jaguars fell to 45-8.
OSU scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, two coming via RBI singles by Daylon Monette and Jake Bollig.
Southern scored a run in the third off of Cowboy starter Mike Miller to make it 3-1. OSU plated three runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 6-1. Bollig and Zach Cates led off the with doubles and Rob Watson followed with a RBI triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly by third baseman Paul Powell.
The Jaguars rallied with two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-3. Leftfielder Fred Lewis had a RBI single and shortstop Fernando Puebla a RBI groundout to account for the runs.
Watson had a two-run homer and Matt Oakes a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to push the OSU lead to 9-3.
Mike Miller held the Jaguars to just one run in four innings of work to improve to 3-2 on the year. The Tulsa product allowed seven hits and walked two with three strikeouts and picked up the win due to the predetermined length of work on the mound.
Southern starter Eric Thomas (7-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season after giving up nine runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The Jaguars wrapped out 16 hits on the day but left 15 runners on base. Fernando Puebla led the team with a 4-for-5 showing while third baseman Antoin Gray and first baseman Trae Duncan both chipped in with three hits each.
The Cowboys will close out the regular season with a three-game series against Bedlam rival Oklahoma, beginning on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa. The teams will then switch venues to Oklahoma City and the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark for Friday and Saturday's games. Both of those contests are at 7 p.m. as well.
