Cowboys Cruise Past San Diego State 16-2

OSU (2-0) used back-to-back five-run innings to put the Aztecs (0-2) away early. For the game, the Cowboys battered seven SDSU pitchers for 12 hits and earned16 walks while batting around in three different innings.
In the third inning, the Cowboys loaded the bases and scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by preseason All-American Ryan Budde. Senior Jimbo McAuliff delivered the inning's big blow, hitting a bases-clearing double to give the Pokes a 4-0 lead. McAuliff scored the inning's final run on a bse hit by sophomore Kyle Smith.
Budde drove in his second run of the game in the fourth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sophomore Brian Kraft's two-run single opened the floodgates, extending the OSU lead to 10-0.
Kraft, a transfer from Florida State, paced the Cowboys' attack with four hits and three RBIs. Sophomore José Virgil also had a big night at the plate, scoring four runs on the night.
The Cowboys added another run in the fifth before putting the game out of reach with another five-run outburst in the seventh.
On the mound, Nick McCurdy turned in a stellar performance in his Cowboy debut. The Jefferson Davis Junior College product scattered three hits and did not allow a run in six innings of work to pick up the win.
Senior lefthander Ben Julianel took the loss for the Aztecs.
SDSU scored its only runs of the contest on a two-out single in the ninth inning.
The Cowboys will conclude the three-game set in Yuma on Sunday when they take on UC Riverside Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
