John Urick scored the only run for the Pokes with his 13th homerun of the season in the seventh inning.
Shirek scattered four hits over seven innings of work and only allowed one run to improve his record to 5-1.
Cowboy starter Spencer Grogan suffered the loss and fell to 3-5 on the season.
NU improved to 39-13 and 18-6 in the Big 12, while OSU dropped to 30-21 and 12-12 in conference play.
The Cowboys had their best chance in the top of the third when they stranded the bases loaded.
The Huskers took advantage of a leadoff walk and consecutive bunt singles by Jeff Leise and Joe Simokaitis to the tune of three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Matt Hopper had the big blow with a two-run single to left. Ledbetter grounded into a double play, but Simokaitis scored to make it 4-0.
The Huskers added a single run in the seventh and broke it open in the eighth with ? runs. Simokaitis had an RBI single and Hopper had a two-run single in the eighth inning. OSU reliever Justin Ottman walked in a run to make it a 9-1 game.
