Oklahoma Ties Series With 7-4 Win Over Oklahoma State

OU evened the series at 1-1 and improved to 15-24 and 3-14 in Big 12 play while the Cowboys fell to 28-14 and 10-7 in league action.
Center fielder José Virgil staked the Cowboys to a 2-0 lead in the first on a homer to right-center off of Sooner starter Casey Brown.
OU scored on a RBI single by designated hitter Luke Alexander in the second off of OSU starter Spencer Grogan.
Virgil got the run back in the Cowboys half of the second on a RBI double to left field. OU right fielder Greg Kish knocked a RBI single in the third to cut the lead back down to one, 3-2.
Sooner shortstop Denver Kitch tied the game up in the fourth on a RBI single to right. They took the lead in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by first baseman Matt Bose.
Catcher Jason Jaramillo knotted the game at 4-4 with a two-out RBI single up the middle that scored Virgil who reached on a leadoff walk.
OU took the lead in the sixth when Russell Raley led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second when Jaramillo slipped and could not get designated hitter Luke Alexander who reached first on a sacrifice bunt. Another sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third before Cowboy reliever Cody King came in to face left fielder Brandon Jones. Jones lifted a sacrifice fly to center and was followed by a RBI single by Denver Kitch to make it 6-4.
The Sooners added another unearned run in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Junior Casey Brown (2-1) picked up the win, going five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Spencer Grogan (3-4) took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned on nine hits in 5.1 innings of work.
The teams will close out the three game series tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark. Junior righthander Joe Weaver will throw for the Cowboys while junior left hander Buddy Blair will take the hill for OU.
