Oklahoma State Stomps Grambling 12-1
April 17, 2003 | Cowboy Baseball
Oklahoma State won all four of its games this weekend to improve to 7-5 with the win, while Grambling fell to 2-4 on the year.
Starting pitcher Joe Weaver (2-2) won his second straight start with five innings of four-hit ball.
The Cowboys scored two runs in the first which proved to be all they would need in the game. Third baseman Josh Fields' RBI double plated the first run and Fields later scored on an error by Grambling third baseman Kevin Camp.
Mario Matulich hit a solo homer and Brian Kraft a two-run blast in the third inning to push the Oklahoma State lead to 5-0.
Grambling took advantage of a fielding error by shortstop Shawn Callahan to score a run in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Jacobi Frank.
The Pokes put two more runs on the board in the fourth, one coming via Jose Virgil's second homer of the season. OSU added three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to close out the scoring as the game was called in the seventh due to the 10-run rule.
Matulich led the Cowboys at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Cowboys will return to Stillwater for their home opener next Friday, March 7, against Miami (OH) at 3 p.m.
