Van Pelt, 3 Others Named Men's Golf All-Americans

Van Pelt's first-team mention marks the 26th time in the past 28 years that an OSU golfer was named to the first team. Freshman Edward Loar and senior Leif Westerberg were named to this year's second team, and senior Brian Guetz received honorable mention.
The Cowboys, who are expected to finish the season ranked No. 1 when the Rolex rankings are released Wednesday, have four golfers named to the All-America squad for the 16th time in school history.
Van Pelt, who tied for medalist honors at the Central Regional in Norman two weeks ago, is the first OSU player to receive first-team All-America honors since Alan Bratton and Chris Tidland in 1995.
Loar, the first true freshman on record to have led OSU in stroke average for a season, earned second-team all-nation mention and became the seventh OSU freshman named second-team All-America or higher.
Westerberg, who finishes his career ranked third in school history in total rounds played (178), is the 10th Cowboy golfer named to the All-America team four times. He received honorable mention in 1994 and 1995 and was named to the second team last year.
Guetz finishes his career with the honorable mention selection after finishing 17th at the NCAA Championship. He was perhaps OSU's most consistent golfer this season, leading the team with 11 top-20 finishes in the 15 tournaments he entered.
OSU's fifth-place finish at last week's NCAA Championship marked the 42nd time in the 51-year school golf history that the Cowboys have finished fifth or higher at the national championship. This week's All-America announcement marks the 11th time in the last 13 years that at least four OSU players were named All-Americans.
