Cowboy Wrestling Sends Nine to Finals of Big 12 Championships

Oklahoma State's wrestling team sent nine wrestlers to the finals at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, March 8 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.
The Cowboys recorded 78 points in the semifinals to take a 46 point lead over next closest Missouri and Oklahoma with 32 points, respectively. Rounding out the five are Nebraska with 18 points and Iowa State with eight points.
Jake Rosholt knocked off OU's top-seeded Josh Lambrecht, 6-1, to advance to the finals. Rosholt avenged two previous losses to Lambrecht and also gave him his fourth consecutive victory.
The Sand Point, Idaho, native defeated B.J. Padden, 12-9, in the pigtail match before advancing to the semifinals.
Skyler Holman avenged his loss to Nebraska's Jason Powell after recording a 10-5 decision to advance to the finals. The Broken Arrow, Okla., native took an early 2-0 lead before Powell came storming back to take a 4-2 lead.
Holman cut the lead to 4-3 after being awarded a warning point in the second period. In the third period, Holman took the lead at 5-4 after scoring a reversal, a lead he would not relinquish, as he went on to notch the win.
Jerrod Sanders, Shane Roller, Muhammed Lawal and Willie Gruenwald all recorded bonus points for the Cowboys.
Sanders notched a 10-2 major decision over Iowa State's Nate Gallick, while Lawal recorded four takedowns en route to a 10-2 major decision over OU's Tom Grossman.
Roller and Gruenwald each notched falls for the Cowboys. Roller pinned Nebraksa's David Ingalls in 1:04, while Gruenwald pinned Iowa State's Scott Coleman in 1:33.
Zack Esposito, Johnny Thompson and Chris Pendleton all recorded decision for the Cowboys.
Iowa State's Nick Passalano upset Tyrone Lewis, 3-1, in the tiebreaker, snapping his 22-match win streak.
The consolation semifinals are slated to start at 4 p.m. with the finals beginning at 7 p.m.
