Cowboy Wrestling Falls to Missouri, 21-17

Oklahoma State's wrestling team fell to the Missouri Tigers, 21-17, Friday night in Hazelwood, Mo. The Tigers were fueled by a pair of pins from J.P. Reese and Matt Pell. The Cowboys took an early 3-0 lead after Chris Pendleton's come-from-behind win over Ben Askren. Pendleton fell behind early after Askren recorded a pair of takedowns and a two-point nearfall. After no scoring in the second, Pendleton cut the lead to 7-2 with an escape and then scored on a double-leg takedown to get within three. The Lemoore, Calif., native tied the score after locking up a cradle for a three-point nearfall. Pendleton rode Askren the remaining 14 seconds to send the match into overtime. Pendleton capitalized off a single leg to take the 9-7 victory. The Tigers won the next two matches to take a 9-3 lead. MU's Pell pinned Brett Munosn in 2:05, while Jeff Foust knocked off Rusty Blackmon, 3-1. With Will Gruenwald's 15-7 major decision over Clint Freeman, the Cowboys cut the lead to 9-7. The TIger's then extended their lead to 12-7 after Austin DeVoe recorded a takedown at the buzzer to earn a 3-2 victory over Cody Stites. Johnny Thompson needed a pair of takedowns to secure the 5-4 victory over Paul Collum, who was a JUCO National Champion last year. Thompson's victory cut the Tiger lead to 12-10. The Tiger's took a commanding 18-10 lead after J.P. Reese pinned Ronnie Delk in 3:24. The Cowboys cut the lead to 18-14 after Zack Esposito recorded five takedowns en route to a 12-4 major decision over Jeremy Spates. But the Tiger's secured the upset, and their first ever win over OSU, with Kenny Burleson's 5-3 over Kevin Ward. OSU ended the dual with Tyrone Lewis' 11-5 victory over Tyron Woodley.
