AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas took advantage of two Oklahoma State errors in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead en route to a 7-4 win in baseball action Sunday afternoon at Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns swept the three-game set to improve to 37-11 overall and 15-6 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma State lost its fifth straight contest to fall to 29-15 and 8-9 in conference action.
Designated hitter J.D. Reininger had a two-run double and second baseman Tim Moss a RBI groundout to lead the way in the second. Three of the four UT runs were unearned in the stanza.
The Longhorns scored another unearned run in the third when leftfielder Eric Sultemeier reached on an error by Cowboy third baseman Paul Powell. Sultemeier stole second and third, then scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher Ryan Hubele to make it 5-0.
The Pokes rallied for two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-2. Daylon Monette scored on an error by UT second baseman Tim Moss and designated hitter Jake Bollig scored on a single by first baseman Zach Cates.
OSU made it 5-3 in the sixth when Josh Fields roped a double to right-center scoring Daylon Monette, who opened the inning with a double.
UT designated hitter Dustin Majewski blasted a two-run homer to left in the sixth to push the Longhorn advantage to 7-3.
The Cowboys scored a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-4 and had runners on second and third with two outs but Jake Bollig flied out deep to rightfield to end the threat.
