Texas Tech Defeats Oklahoma State 8-3

STILLWATER, Okla. - Texas Tech's offense came alive in the fourth inning and scored at least a run in every frame the rest of the contest in a 8-3 win over Oklahoma State in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
The Red Raiders won the conference series between the two schools for the second straight year and improved to 20-9 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12. The Cowboys fell to 11-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
Tech scored an unearned run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead off of OSU starter Jimmy Rhodes. Catcher Willie Durazo then had a RBI single in the fifth to push the TTU lead to 2-0.
Oklahoma State got on the board in the fifth when Daylon Monette scored with the bases loaded off a ground out by catcher Matt Oakes.
Center fielder John Slack added to the Tech lead with a RBI single in the sixth and then designated hitter Nick Blankenship provided the winning margin with a two-run homer in the seventh that extended the lead to 5-1.
The Cowboys rallied back in the bottom of the seventh starting with a solo homer by Monette to right field. After pinch hitter Toby Rhodes reached on an error, center fielder Jeff Salazar knocked him in with a double to right to cut the advantage to 5-3.
Tech proved to be resilient, however, scoring a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to extend the lead to 8-3.
Red Raider starter Steve Gooch picked up the win for the Red Raiders to improve to 3-2 on the year. Cowboy starter Jimmy Rhodes took the loss to drop to 1-2.
The teams will close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
