Wildcats Outlast Cowboys, 13-8

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's baseball squad fell victim to a pair of big innings against Kansas State en route to suffering a 13-8 setback to the Wildcats before 1,910 fans at Reynolds Stadium.
K-State, 12-19 overall and 4-13 in the Big 12, scored six runs in the third inning and followed with four more in the fourth frame to secure the win.
OSU, who fell to 25-11 and 9-8, built a three-run lead in the first. Luke Scott belted his team-best 12th home run, a two-run blast, followed by a RBI single by Jos? Virgil.
However, the Wildcats plated six runs in the third, all with two outs, including a three-run double by Curtis Murdock and the first of Kasey Weishaar's two home runs on the day.
In the fourth, KSU tagged the Cowboys for four more runs on four hits to push the lead to 10-3.
OSU mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to climb back within striking distance at 11-7. In the frame, pinch hitter Brad Bouris doubled home two runs and later scored on a single by Rob Watson.
Freshman Scott Baker suffered just his second loss of the season and fell to 6-2 after working 2.2 innings and giving up five runs.
Kevin Melcher registered his first win of the season and rose to 1-2 after working 5.1 innings while Kelvin Day came on to work the final 2.1 innings to notch his third save for the Wildcats.
The two teams will close out the series with a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday.
