THE WEEK AHEAD
Oklahoma State hits the road for the second consecutive weekend as the
Cowboys travel to Ames, Iowa on Friday to begin a three-game set against the
Iowa State Cyclones. The two teams will open the series with a 2 p.m. start
on Friday and will have a pair of 1 p.m. starts on Saturday and Sunday.
SCOUTING THE CYCLONES
Friday's contest will be just the second at Cap Timm Field this season
for the Cyclones. On Tuesday, ISU downed in-state rival Iowa 5-3 to open its
home slate. Offensively, the Cyclones are led by Spencer Allen. The
infielder has started 19 games and is hitting .375 on the season.
On the mound, Mark Hanrahan is sporting a 1.62 ERA and has made 11 appearances this season. In 16.2 innings of work, he has struck out 18 while walking seven.
OSU holds a 105-37 advantage in the all-time series. The Cowboys swept last year's series, winning by counts of 7-4, 9-6 and 20-2.
PROBABLES ON THE MOUND
Southpaw Josh Merrigan will lead the Cowboys' weekend rotation. Merrigan
has logged eight starts this season and has a 3.59 ERA to go along with a
4-3 record. In 47.2 innings, he has struck out 44 and walked 20 batters
while holding the opposition to a .214 batting average.
Junior Nick McCurdy enters the weekend with a 4-2 record and a 3.93 ERA. McCurdy, a junior college transfer, has made eight appearances this season and has earned the starting nod seven times.
Freshman Scott Baker will look to improve upon his team-best five wins this weekend. The righthander carries a 3.25 ERA and has baffled the opposition, holding them to a .206 average.
