STILLWATER, Okla - Oklahoma State's baseball team scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to slip past the Texas Longhorns 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
In a game that mirrored Friday's 2-1 pitcher's dual, the Cowboys came out on top to even the series at a win apiece.
The Longhorns, who dropped to 15-12 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12, jumped out in front in the third inning on Ben King's RBI single, driving home Kalani Napolean to put UT up 1-0.
The damage could have been worse for the Cowboys in the inning, as the Horns had runners at first and third with one out. Napolean got caught in a run down between first and second base. On the play, Jeff Ontiveros tried to score from third and was thrown out at the plate, thwarting the potential for a big inning.
The Cowboys, who rose to 19-4 and 6-2, pulled even in the bottom half of the frame. Paul Powell reached on an error by UT third baseman Ryan Brooks. Powell advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Roy York before coming home on a single by Nebasett Brown.
The two teams traded runs in the fourth as well. In the inning, OSU's Zach Cates hit his first home run of the season, slamming a 2-2 pitch from Longhorn starter Albert Montes over the rightfield wall.
Both squads were held at bay until the bottom of the eighth when Brown led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Luke Scott followed with a sacrifice bunt before Jos? Virgil singled up the middle to plate Brown with the winning run.
Cowboy freshman Joe Weaver worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win for OSU and move to 4-0 on the season. Albert Montes took the loss for UT and fell to 4-2.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
