Cowboys Win Conference Opener

STILLWATER, Okla. -
Oklahoma State's baseball team opened up Big 12 Conference play with a 6-4 win over Missouri this afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the win, the Cowboys improve their record to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Tigers fall to 3-3-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
Oklahoma State took an early lead in the first inning as Nebasett Brown singled to left field and scored off of Luke Scott's double. Missouri tied the game in the top of the second as Ryan Rallo hit a solo homer to left field.
Toby Rhodes got the Cowboys started in the second inning with a single to left field. Rob Watson then hit a single to right center. Brown then hit a three-run home run down the right field line. Jos? Virgil and Scott then hit back to back doubles, and Virgil scored the fourth run of the inning for Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys added a final run in the fifth inning as Virgil doubled and scored on Ryan Budde's sacrifice fly.
The Tigers posted a run in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, but they were unable to overcome the deficit as reliever Shane Hawk retired the final four batters to record the save for the Cowboys.
Josh Merrigan got the win for the Cowboys, allowing four runs in six innings on the mound and striking out four. He improved to 3-1 on the year with the win. Drew Endicott got the loss for Missouri. He falls to 1-1 on the season.
Brown led the Cowboys offensively, going two for three with a home run and three RBIs. Virgil was two for four with two doubles, and Scott was three for four with two doubles and two RBIs. Watson was two for three with a triple.
The Cowboys will be back in action against the Tigers tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium. The series will conclude on Monday at 1 p.m.
