CEDAR FALLS, Iowa.-- There were a few upsets, but Oklahoma State's second-ranked wrestling team beat 20th-ranked Northern Iowa 31-9 tonight at the West Gym.
The 13-1 Cowboys won eight-of-10 matches and dominated the Panthers, but not without some excitement. OSU notched an upset at heavyweight, but were then upset at 141 and 174 pounds.
Cowboy heavyweight James Huml turned in his most impressive outing of the season, knocking off third-ranked Paul Hynek, 7-4.
James wrestled a good match, according to head coach John Smith. It was the first match I've seen him wrestled were he just flat wrestled hard. He kept going forward and he kept wrestling. He did a really good job the entire match of getting his legs back and scoring defensively twice actually.
The Pokes were upset 4-2 at 141 pounds as UNI's Mark Rial decisioned Charles Walker, 4-2 in overtime.
At 174 pounds, Tyrone Lewis was pinned in 38 seconds as he missed a throw attempt and was pinned.
OSU's 184-pounder Daniel Cormier decisioned UNI?s 17th-ranked Kyle Hansen, 10-8 to start the dual. Mark Mu-oz then took care of Jason Payne 10-5 at 197 pounds.
Then the Cowboys also picked up win at 125, 133, 149 and 157 pounds.
OSU returns to action on Feb. 2 as the Oregon State Beavers invade Stillwater for a 7 p.m. dual.
