STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State sophomore catcher Ryan Budde was selected to the final 22-man roster of the 2000 USA National Baseball Team, the organization announced this morning.
Budde was selected from a pool of 35 players and is one of two catchers to make the team. The Midwest City native has played in two games for the team and is 2-for-3 (.667) with a double and two runs scored.
Budde is the second Oklahoma State player in the last two years to play for the team as pitcher Matt Smith played for the 1999 squad that toured Japan.
Baylor freshman hurler Zane Carlson was the only other player selected to the squad from the Big 12.
Southern California's Mike Gillespie will serve as the head coach for the USA National Team, which will play approximately 30 games on the US WEST Red, White and Blue Summer Tour. Team USA has already played four games against the Mexican National Team and have a 4-0 record after an 11-5 victory last night. They will play the final game of this five-game series this evening before traveling to Hawaii Friday. The 29th annual USA vs Japan Collegiate All-Star series begins Sunday in Honolulu.
The following is a list of 20 players that made the cut at the U S WEST USA Baseball National Team Trials, which were held at the U S WEST Sports Complex at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson from June 15-21.
