OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Seton Hall jumped out to an 8-0
lead and never looked back, defeating Oklahoma State
9-3 in baseball action Wednesday night at the
Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark.
The Pirates split the two-game series with the Cowboys and snapped OSU's seven-game win streak. Seton Hall moves to 33-14 while Oklahoma State dropped to 34-19.
SHU scored a run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead which remained intact until the fifth inning when the Pirates scored five runs to expand the lead to 8-0. Casey Grimm hit a two-run homer to spark the SHU five-run inning. Ray Navarette added a two-run single and Josh Schuck added a RBI single in the frame.
After Seton Hall scored a run in the seventh to build a 9-0 advantage, the Pokes responded with a three-run seventh to cut the lead to 9-3. Jimbo McAuliff and Ryan Budde had RBI doubles in the inning and Luke Scott chipped in with a sacrifice fly RBI.
Rob Watson dropped to 2-1 on the year with the loss while Chris Reilly improved to 3-0 with four innings of shutout ball.
Jimbo McAuliff led the Pokes at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing at the plate while Casey Grimm led the Pirates with a 3-for-5 night and three RBIs.
The Cowboys will be back in action against Texas Tech this weekend in Big 12 play. The two teams will open the series Friday at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.
