Baseball Squad Drops Hard-Fought Battle Against Oklahoma, 7-5

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Sean Murphy's triple in the sixth inning scored Tommy Whiteman from first with the game-winning run as Oklahoma defeated Oklahoma State 7-5 at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark Sunday afternoon.
The Sooners swept the series and improved to 31-15 on the season and 14-7 in Big 12 play while the Cowboys dropped to 27-17 and 9-12 in league play.
The contest was tied 4-4 when Murphy ripped his triple to the rightfield wall off of OSU reliever Quenten Patterson, who was charged with the loss to drop to 0-1. Murphy scored on a single by Jason Bartlett to extend the lead to 6-4.
The Cowboys threatened to tie the score in the eighth with two men on and one out. Jeff Bajenaru came into the game in relief and got Ront? Langs to ground into a double play on the first pitch he threw to end the inning.
Bajenaru added a solo homer in the eighth to give OU an insurance run and a 7-4 lead. The Cowboys scored a run in the ninth off a RBI single by Jimbo McAuliff but Toby Rhodes struck out to end the game and give the Sooners the sweep.
With the three wins, OU now leads the series 128-126 dating back to the 1935 season.
McAuliff accounted for four of the five OSU runs with a 3-for-5 day at the plate including a two-run homer in the third which gave the Pokes a 3-2 lead.
Austin Coose picked up the win in relief and improved to 4-5 on the season while Bajenaru notched his 15th save of the year and third of the series.
The Cowboys will be back in action Wed., April 26 against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium. OSU will host Purdue for a three game series beginning Thurs., April 27 at 7 p.m.
