STILLWATER, Okla. -- Roy York's three-run homer in the third sparked Oklahoma State to a 14-3 win over Texas A&M in Big 12 baseball action Friday night at Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys won their third straight game and improved to 22-14 overall and 7-9 in the Big 12 while Texas A&M dropped its sixth consecutive contest and fell to 21-22 on the year and 10-9 in conference play.
OSU opened the scoring in the first inning when Ryan Budde hit a bloop single to centerfield scoring Nebasett Brown and Jimbo McAuliff, giving the Pokes a 2-0 lead.
The Cowboys added another run in the second off a McAuliff RBI single and broke the game open with York's homer in the third, his fifth of the season, extending the lead to 6-0. OSU added two more runs in the fifth and led 8-0 before the Aggies got on the board.
Josh Merrigan improved to 7-1 on the year after holding Texas A&M scoreless for five innings before they scored three runs off of him in the sixth. He pitched six innings and gave up eight hits while striking out five. The runs snapped a 23-inning scoreless streak by the Cowboy pitchers spanning three games. Clint Salisbury pitched three innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first save this year.
Eric Reed opened the sixth with a triple for A&M and scored on Ryan Wardinsky's double. After Daylan Holt walked, Carlos Sepulveda followed with a RBI double and later scored on a Brent Howell sacrifice fly to account for the Aggie scoring.
OSU added a run in both the sixth and seventh innings and four runs in the eighth to round out the scoring. Both Carl?s Gautreaux and Jimbo McAuliff notched career-highs with four hits apiece while McAuliff also tied a career-best with four RBIs.
Reed led A&M at the plate with three hits and Sean Heaney notched two hits as well to lead the Aggie offense.
Todd Deininger dropped to 7-4 with the loss after giving up eight runs off of 10 hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The teams will be back in action in the second game of the three game series tomorrow at 7 p.m. Lefthander Matt Smith will be on the mound for the Pokes while righthander Khalid Ballouli will start for the Aggies.
