Aztecs Drop Cowboys 10-3 In Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. - San Diego State wrapped out 15 hits off of four Oklahoma State pitchers en route to a 10-3 win Saturday afternoon at Desert Sun Stadium.
San Diego State rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the third and scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Leftfielder Paul Lockhart sparked the comeback with a two-run homer off of Cowboy starter Frank Bludau.
San Diego State improved to 5-2 with the win while Oklahoma State fell to 0-2 on the season. The start is the first 0-2 start for the Cowboys since the 1971 season.
The Aztecs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, courtesy of a leadoff triple by shortstop Edgar Gonzalez and an RBI single by second baseman Matt Ricardy.
The Cowboys rallied with a three-run second inning, paced by a RBI double by centerfielder Toby Rhodes and a two RBI single by rightfielder Jimbo McAuliff, to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Aztecs added another run in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-3. The Pokes loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh but failed to score when Rhodes struck out. OSU ended the game leaving 13 runners on base.
San Diego State scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and three more in the bottom of the eighth to push the score to 10-3.
Shortstop Nebasett Brown paced the Cowboys going 3-for-4 at the plate while Jimbo McAuliff added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs.
Frank Bludau took the loss to drop to 0-1 while Marcos Mendoza picked up the win in relief for San Diego State to move to 1-0.
Both teams will square off in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m. CST. Junior lefthander Josh Merrigan will start for the Pokes while senior righty Jeremy Cook is the scheduled starter for the Aztecs.
