First Round Results from the Big 12 Wrestling Tournament

AMES, Iowa - Oklahoma State's wrestling team is in second place after the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Ames, Iowa.
Oklahoma leads the tournament with 52 points, OSU has 45.5, Nerbaska 44 and Iowa State has 33. Oklahoma has six wrestlers, Oklahoma State and Iowa State have five and Nebraska has four.
Teague Moore opened the semifinal round with a fall over Jake Lapinski in 3:37. Moore dominated from the start scoring 14 points in the first period on four takedowns and two near falls. He will face long-time rival Shane Valdez in the finals. Valdez was a 10-2 winner over Paul Gomez of Nebraska.
Eric Guerrero also scored a dominating win over Todd Beckerman of Nebraska, winning 16-1 in 6:05. It was his 19th bonus point win in 25 matches this season. He will face Cody Sanderson of Iowa State in the finals.
Charles Walker dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Jose DeAnda of Nebraska. Reggie Wright advanced to the finals with an 9-5 win over Cole Sanderson of Iowa State. Sanderson is the only person to defeat Wright this season.
Ty Wilcox, who was unranked going into the tournament, beat fourth-ranked Rod Jones in overtime, 4-2 to advance to the finals against top-ranked Joe Heskett of Iowa State. Mark Smith cruised into the finals with a fall over Charles McTorry of Nebraska. He will wrestle Oklahoma's Michael Barger in the finals.
Mark Munoz lost to sixth-ranked Brad Vering of Nebraska, 5-4. Munoz had defeated Vering in their prior two meetings this season. Dave Anderton loss his semifinal match to John Henry Ward, 17-2
In the first round matches, the Cowboys only had two wrestlers participate. Jimmy Arias took a default loss. He injured a rib in practice but will be accepted into the NCAA's via wildcard.
Josh Cruzan lost his match to Kevin Herron of Missouri. Cruzan was leading 4-0 with riding time win Herron turned and craddled Cruzan for the fall in 5:29.
Consolation matches will begin at 4 p.m. and the finals are slated for 7 p.m.
