Nov. 8, 1998
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Junior Edward Loar picked up the fourth individual trophy of his career when he won the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational this afternoon.
He led the top-ranked OSU team to an eighth-place finish; the Cowboys fired a 6-under-par score of 282, the second-best team score in the tourney, to move up from Saturday's surprising 13th-place position after 36 holes.
Loar, who becomes just the 11th player in OSU's storied golf history to win four or more tournaments, entered the day in third place but carded a final-round 67 to win the tournament by six strokes.
Junior Landry Mahan rebounded from a second-round 81 to shoot a 68 today, moving him into a tie with sophomore teammate Charles Howell for 37th place at 7-over 223 for the tournament. Freshman Anders Hultman (59th, 228) and sophomore Peter Davidson (86th, 241) rounded out the OSU lineup.
The tournament closes OSU's fall season; the Cowboys will next be in action Feb. 17-19 in the John A. Burns Intercollegiate.
