MADISON, Wis. - Oklahoma State's top-ranked wrestling team got a fall from defending national champion Teague Moore and rolled to an easy season-opening win over Wisconsin, Friday in Madison, Wis.
The Cowboys' dual winning streak was extended to 46 with the win.
Third-ranked Jimmy Arias, the Cowboys 157-pounder, led off the dual with an easy 19-5 win over P.J. Dowling. Under new rules this season, the start of the dual is chosen by random draw at the beginning of the match rather than the traditional lightweights to heavyweight format.
The Badgers picked up their only win of the dual at 165-pounds when second-ranked Don Pritzlaff scored a major decision over the Cowboys' Shawn Smith. Top-ranked 174-pounder Mark Smith, of the Cowboys, struggled in his match with ninth-ranked Kole Clauson but prevailed in sudden death when he rode Clauson out for the win.
Mark Mu-oz picked up a 12-5 win over Steve Alf in the 184-pound match. Pat Popolizio picked up his first win of the year with a 4-2 win over Ryan LaGrange. Newcomer Dave Anderton overcame a late-pinning situation to score a 14-9 win over Jason Pernat in the heavyweight match.
Moore, a 125-pounder, then scored his fall in 4:21 over Kevin Black. Two-time national champion Eric Guerrero scored a 20-4 technical fall over Matt Goldstein. Jamill Kelly picked up a 12-8 win over Brady Cudd in the 141-pound match. Reggie Wright ended the match with a 15-3 win over Dusty Coufal at the 149-pound match.
The Cowboys will battle No. 2 Minnesota on Sunday in Minneapolis at 6 p.m.
