Nineteenth-Ranked Baseball Squad Set to Open 1999 Campaign

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State baseball team will open its 1999 season against Missouri Southern on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
1998 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Matt Smith will be on the mound for the Cowboys along with veteran Thom Dreier and junior college transfer Denny New. Each is expected to pitch three innings against the Lions.
Missouri Southern is 0-1 on the season after falling to Arkansas, 7-6, Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ark.
Oklahoma State is 44-17-1 all-time in season openers including a current streak of 13 straight wins dating back to the 1986 season. In addition, the Cowboys are 50-12 in home openers and have won 14 straight.
The Cowboys return five starters from last year's squad which finished 40-21 and advanced into the Midwest Regionals.
Admission is free to the public and 1999 media guides will be on sale for $7.
